I’ve been drawing my daily diary comic strip since October 1998.  I just completed another sketchbook… so I stacked them all up rather dangerously to try and get a perspective on how much I’ve accomplished so far.  That’s like 4500 pages of comics.
We’re going to digitally publish new volumes each month, each volume collecting a single year of the strip (except the first volume which collects all of 1999 plus the tail end of 1998).  Buy it from ibooks here.

Fucking epic and a total inspiration!

This is an amazing volume of work and a real achievement, and yet my first thought when I saw this was, “No human could stack books like that.” Thanks a lot, Bill Murray.

"…the last original “Life in Hell” comic, Mr. Groening’s 1,669th strip, was released on June 15. Publications that run the comic can choose older “Life in Hell” material until July 13, after which its archives will be closed."

Matt Groening Ends His ‘Life in Hell’ (The Comic Strip, That Is) - NYTimes.com

Syndicated cartoonist Ted Rall was quoted on Poynter.com saying:

“It’s hard to imagine how the business model that sustained alternative social-commentary and political cartooning for two decades (and is now all but dead) would have evolved had papers not discovered the power of Groening’s strip and its ability to attract readers.”

» I’ve been reading “Life in Hell” off and on for a quarter-century or so. Sad to see it’s going away.

Gabrielle Bell was a special guest at San Diego Comic-Con this year. Her blog entries about the experience are taking her quite a while, as she’s doing them in comic style. Funny, interesting stuff and easy to read despite all the text, although it does not make me want to attend Comic-Con.
For the record, I like most of the food I’ve had in the Gaslamp, but she’s right about it being overpriced. And I kinda hate the place on weekend nights, which is why I chose this frame out of the dozens that were available.
