Four views of the Chrysler Building in black and white

Playing with the grainy black and white setting on my Olympus e-pl1 with Sigma 19mm 2.8 EX DN

In a city full of great buildings, the Chrysler is my favorite. My contribution to the huge assortment of Chrysler Building photos is tiny, but I’m proud of it.

Love this shot from Archi/Maps (archimaps) that shows a 1920s (probably) factory/warehouse with a train going right into it. Easy way to get to work!

The High Line passing through the Nabisco Cookie Company Building, New York

If my five-minute research on this is correct, Nabisco left this complex in the 1940s, before this photo was shot in 1950. But the factory played an important role in American culture - the first Oreo was produced here in 1912!
Chelsea Market is there now, right, New Yorkers? If my geography is correct, inside this building is where I shot these photos just before sunset one day about a year ago.
In any case, this photo is fantastic. While checking my recollection about the building, I found a thread at skyscrapercity.com with a ton of old New York photos. Knocked my socks off.

NYC Subway Map

The map is laid out according to the order the subway lines were built. Beautiful.

“Remember These Days” is a beautiful story about Walter Backerman, a third-generation seltzer man in New York City. I could listen to this guy talk all day.

Walter the Seltzer Man has gotten a fair amount of publicity, including this blog post at The New York Times, which includes a delightful correction at the end.

Lower East Side alley. New York City.
In the darkest canals of the city where light seeps through slowly, wanderers emerge bleary-eyed into the sun: birthed explorers carrying darkness into the light.

There is a solitary aspect to living in such a highly populated city such as New York City.
It’s easier to sink into the shadows.
People pass in stairways and on sidewalks with vigorous abandon : ghosts brushing shoulders in a daily anonymous tango.
