Venus de Milo
The Louvre, Paris, France; September 2010
I’ve never been a huge fan of sculpture. Two-dimensional art has always appealed to me more. It surprised me, then, that my favorite pieces of art in Paris were sculptures. I loved The Thinker, but what really blew me away was the Venus de Milo. Thousands of years ago, somebody turned a chunk of rock into this living creation. Words don’t do it justice, and frankly, neither do photos. You have to see it.
And you can see it from every angle, an advantage sculptures have over paintings. Makes it that much easier to appreciate the artistry.
